How to connect Basis to Whatagraph

Basis is a DSP and media management platform for programmatic advertising - this article covers how to connect it, what data is available, and how to migrate if you're on the legacy integration.

Basis is a DSP and media management platform used by agencies running programmatic advertising campaigns. The Whatagraph integration pulls campaign performance data into your reports so you can show clients results alongside other channels - without manually exporting CSVs from Basis.

Note: This integration is currently in beta. If you run into issues or unexpected data, contact Whatagraph support.

How to connect

Authentication uses OAuth2 - you log in directly with your Basis credentials.

Step 1. In Whatagraph, open Data Sources and click "+ Connect new source". Then search for Basis and select it.

Step 2. Log in with your Basis credentials and authorize the connection.

Step 3. Whatagraph will pull your client list from Basis and create a separate source for each client. Select the clients you want to connect.

Note: One Whatagraph source is created per Basis client. To report across multiple clients in a single view, use Source Groups.

What data is available

Data can be broken down across seven report types: Account, Client, Campaign, Line Item, Line Item Group, Tactic, and Creative.

Data

What it includes

Impressions & clicks

Delivery volume with CTR

Video

Video starts and completions

Viewability

Measured viewability rate

Net DSP spend

Net media spend including added value line items — reconciles to Basis billing totals

eCPM / eCPC

Calculated efficiency metrics

Dimensions

Date, campaign, line item, line item group, tactic, delivery source, creative

Note: Spend reflects net media spend as billed by Basis. Comparing to gross spend figures from ad platforms will show discrepancies - this is expected.

Data freshness

After connecting, data loads in stages:

  1. Your client list and most recent data appear within a few minutes.

  2. Campaign and line item breakdowns fill in over the next few hours.

  3. The full backfill (~6 months of history) completes overnight.

Note: If campaign or line item data is still missing after a few hours, contact Whatagraph support.

How to migrate from the legacy Basis integration

If you're on the previous Basis integration (listed as Basis (legacy) in your sources), the new version is a separate setup - your existing connection stays active while you migrate. Nothing breaks automatically.

Note: You don't need to disconnect the old connection before setting up the new one. Connect the new integration first, verify your data, then remove the legacy connection when you're ready.

Key differences in the new integration:

  • One source per client - instead of a single agency-level source, each Basis client is now its own Whatagraph source.

  • Tactic and line item group breakdowns - these weren't available before and are now supported.

  • Background data pipeline - previously, data was fetched live from the Basis API on every report load, causing slow loads and frequent connection drops. Data now flows through a background pipeline and loads from a warehouse.

  • Net spend reconciliation - spend now includes added value line items and is allocated correctly across delivery sources and creatives, matching Basis billing totals.
