What's new in chart widgets?

Visualize your data in new ways and ask an IQ Agent for chart types that widget picker doesn't have

Chart widgets keep the chart types and settings you already use, with new options added on top. For chart types you can't drag from the Widgets panel, such as scatter, bubble, or combo charts, ask an IQ Agent to build them for you.

New settings for standard chart widgets

These options sit in the settings of the chart widgets you add from the Widgets panel. Use them to change how a chart visualizes your data.

Step 1. Click the chart widget you want to change.

Step 2. Click the gear icon in the right-side panel to open the widget settings. The new options appear alongside the settings the chart already had.

Overlay by

Overlay by is available on line, area, and vertical bar charts. [Confirm with product and add one sentence on what the overlay shows on the chart.]

Step 1. In the widget settings, open Overlay by.

Step 2. Choose Year, Quarter, Month, or Week:

Choose None to turn the overlay off:

Series names

Step 1. Scroll down in the widget settings to Series names.

Step 2. Choose where the chart shows its metric names:

  • Pills above the chart: the names appear at the top, as they always have in the legend.

  • At the line ends: the names appear on the right, where each line ends, in the same color as the line.

  • Hide: the names are hidden, and you see them only when you hover over the chart, along with each metric's value for that date.

Note: Horizontal bar charts, including stacked horizontal bar charts, offer only the pills and hide options.

Hide a metric from the chart

Step 1. Click the chart widget.

Step 2. Click a metric name in the legend to hide that metric from the chart. For example, click Impressions to focus on Reach.

Step 3. Click the name again to bring the metric back.

Smooth lines

Turn on Smooth lines in the widget settings to round the edges of a line chart. Turn it off to go back to straight edges.

Metric list on pie and donut charts

Turn off the Metric list in the widget settings to hide the list next to a pie or donut chart. The chart shows only the pie or donut, and each slice displays its value when you hover over it.

Funnel style

Step 1. In the widget settings of a funnel chart, open Funnel style.

Step 2. Choose Classic for the standard funnel look, or Stepped for a stepped layout with one column per selected metric.

Hatched fill for bar charts

Step 1. In the bar chart, click on the metric.

Step 2. Once inside, open the metric-level settings by clicking the gear icon in the right-hand panel.

Step 3. Tick "Hatched fill" square to apply a hatched pattern on your metric bar.

Note: Metric-level and widget-level settings are different areas and offer different options.

New chart types created with IQ Agents

Some chart types don't have a widget in the Widgets panel at all. An IQ Agent builds them for you as a Dynamic Chart, so use this section when the drag-and-drop charts can't show what you need.

You can ask an agent for these chart types:

  • Scatter and bubble charts

  • Candlestick and box plot charts

  • Radar and rose charts

  • Stacked and 100% stacked bar or area charts

  • Horizontal bar charts

  • Combo charts (columns and lines together)

  • Top-N charts

  • Calendar heatmaps

Step 1. Open IQ Agents and start a new conversation.

Step 2. Describe the chart in plain language. Name the report and tab, the source, the metrics and dimensions, the chart type, and the date range.

For example: "In the Acme monthly report, on the Paid tab, add a scatter chart of Google Ads campaigns with Cost on the X-axis and Conversions on the Y-axis for last month."

Step 3. Review the plan the agent shows you, then approve it or tell it what to change. Nothing changes in your report until you approve.

Step 4. Open the report to see the new chart. It sits on the tab you named, and you can move and resize it like any other widget.

Step 5. To change the metrics later, click the chart and edit them in the Data drawer, or ask the agent in the same conversation.

Here's an example of the chart widget built by IQ agents:

Important: You can't drag Dynamic Charts from the Widgets panel, so every new one has to come from an agent.

FAQ

Why does my agent-built chart ignore changes in the Data drawer? If the chart was built with every column fixed, editing the drawer doesn't change what's plotted. Ask the agent to rebuild it so it follows the widget's metrics and dimensions again.

Is this the same as creating a widget with Whatagraph IQ? No. Whatagraph IQ creates standard widget types from a prompt. IQ Agents can also build the chart types listed above.
