Why do widgets still show errors when the source is connected and verified?

When a source shows no verification issue but widgets keep failing, reconnecting the account or transferring ownership to a teammate with the right permissions usually fixes it.

A widget can return an error like "Error validating access token" even when its source shows no verification warning at all. This usually means the channel changed a permission or login requirement on its side without breaking the connection status that Whatagraph already has stored, so the usual "Verify source access" prompt never appears. Try one of these two methods to restore the connection.

Method 1: Reconnect the source without removing it

This re-authenticates the existing source through a fresh login, without deleting the source or losing any historical data.

Step 1. Go to Data Sources and leave the broken source exactly as it is. Don't remove it or change any of its settings.
Step 2. Click "+ Connect new source".
Step 3. Search for the channel name of the source you're troubleshooting, for example Facebook Page.
Step 4. Click "+ Add new account" (highlighted in blue).
Step 5. You'll be taken to the channel's login page. Enter your login and password. If it doesn't redirect you back to Whatagraph automatically, refresh it.
Step 7. Open the report and check whether the widget now loads without an error.

Method 2: Transfer source ownership

Sources often break because the person who connected them lost the right permissions, or the channel added a new requirement that wasn't in place when the source first connected. Transferring ownership to a teammate whose account still has the correct permissions and scopes can restore access immediately.

Step 1. Go to Data Sources.
Step 2. Select the broken source by ticking the square box next to the source name.
Step 3. Click on the "Transfer source ownership" and choose the teammate's account.
Step 4. Once the transfer completes, open the report and check if the error persists.

Important: A source transfer only works if the account you're transferring to has already been added to that integration or channel and has the necessary permissions on the channel's side.
