Client-facing filters let you give clients, stakeholders, or anyone with report access the power to adjust how they view the data, without being a Whatagraph user. These filters are added directly to the shared report via a Filter Control Widget and can be applied on the fly by viewers.
Key benefits:
Clients can drill down into data that matters most to them.
No need to create multiple versions of the same report.
Your original report setup stays intact.
How Client-Facing Filters Work
You add a Filter Control Widget when building or editing your report.
You choose the filter dimensions (e.g., Campaign name, Region, Device).
You can apply filters yourself during creation or updates if needed.
Clients interact with filters in the shared report to refine their view.
Important: Filters applied by clients in a shared report do not change your saved version of the report.
Adding Client-Facing Filters
Follow these steps to enable client-facing filters in your report:
Open or create your report in Whatagraph.
Add a Filter Control Widget from the widget library.
Select filter dimensions from the available options:
Campaign name
Region
Device
Any other dimensions supported by your connected data source
Adjust default filter settings if you want to pre-filter the data before sharing.
Save your report and proceed to share it with your client.
Note: You can add multiple filter dimensions for more granular control.
How Clients Use the Filters
Once a report with client-facing filters is shared:
Clients will see drop-down menus or space to enter keywords for the filter dimensions you selected.
They can choose or change filter values instantly.
The report updates in real time to reflect their selections.
Best Practices for Using Client-Facing Filters
Limit filters to key dimensions so clients aren’t overwhelmed with options.
Name filters clearly (e.g., "Region" instead of "Geo") for easier understanding.
Test your report after adding filters to ensure they display and function correctly.
Important: If a client selects a filter value with no data, the widgets in the report will display empty results.
