Instagram does not provide a built-in engagement rate metric through its API. To help you measure how actively your audience interacts with your content, Whatagraph calculates engagement rate using available Instagram data.
We’ve introduced a new metric called Engagement rate (daily avg) for Instagram posts and reels to provide more accurate and meaningful engagement insights.
What is Engagement Rate (Daily Avg)?
Engagement rate (daily avg) shows the percentage of your audience that interacted with your content on an average day during the selected reporting period.
It is based on the following interactions:
Likes
Comments
Saves
How Engagement Rate (Daily Avg) is Calculated
For each day, Whatagraph calculates engagement rate using this formula:
(Likes + Comments + Saves) ÷ Followers × 100
Important details
Follower count is taken from your Instagram account, since posts and reels do not have their own follower numbers.
Engagement is calculated daily, and then the daily values are averaged over the selected date range.
Note: Engagement Rate metric has the same formula, but without averaging the daily results
Why We Use Daily Averages
Averaging daily engagement rates ensures the metric remains realistic and comparable over time.
For example:
If your content has a 0.4% daily engagement rate,
the metric will still show around 0.4% when viewing a monthly or yearly report.
This avoids inflated percentages that can happen when engagement is summed over long periods.
